The 12 Days of Christmas (Part 8)

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Bible Reading: Exodus 11:1 & 2; 12:35 & 36

When the Israelites were preparing to flee from Egypt, God gave them these instructions: “…the people that men and women alike are to ask their neighbors for articles of

silver and gold.”

The Israelites did as God commanded and were rewarded with the wealth they needed to establish themselves in the Promised Land.

This isn’t the only time that gold is mentioned in the Torah, the first five books of the Old Testament. The word “gold” can be found at least 127 times in The Torah, which includes the books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

I don’t know if that is why the five gold rings were chosen to represent the books of the Torah in the song The Twelve Days of Christmas, but it seems like a good choice.

It’s very useful for Christians to become familiar with the names of all of the books in the Bible. Knowing the names of these books helps us to look up verses and passages more quickly and easily. Remembering that the first five books are the gold rings in the song The Twelve Days of Christmas might help you remember their names, too.

I challenge you to memorize the names of the books of the Bible in order, starting with the five gold rings: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

“Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:17

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your word. Teach me. Help me to understand all it has to say. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
