Bible Reading: Genesis 1:1-2:3
“Six geese a-laying” That is the next line we come to in our discussion of the song, The Twelve Days of Christmas.
Geese are frequently associated with Christmas. Many families have roast goose as the feature of their Christmas dinner. So, it’s not surprising that the writers of The Twelve Days of Christmas would choose to include six egg-laying geese to serve as a symbol for the six days of creation.
In Genesis 1 we read the events that transpired when God created our world and universe. When we consider the all-powerful, all-knowing, all-sufficient nature of God, it comes as no surprise that He is capable of creating us and everything around us in six days.
Then, when His creative work was finished, “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good” (Genesis 1:31a).
I encourage you to read Genesis 1 and 2. As you read, pause at each day’s creation thanking and praising God, our Creator, for that part of the wonderful, awe-inspiring universe He created for us!
“You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.” Nehemiah 9:6
Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are an awesome Creator! Thank You for the amazing world You created for us to live in. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
