The 12 Days of Christmas (Part 4)

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Bible Reading: Galatians 5:16-26

Today’s line from the song, The Twelve Days of Christmas, is “nine ladies dancing.” These dancing ladies sound so cheerful, so inspiring! They create an image that is

positive, hopeful, and encouraging. What do these nine ladies dancing represent in the song The Twelve Days of Christmas?

These nine dancing ladies stand for the nine parts of the fruit of the Spirit:

love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

It’s said that movement helps us to learn new things. When we combine a physical motion with the mental activity of trying to remember something, we learn it faster and retain it longer.

Perhaps you and I could join these nine dancing ladies and do a dance while reciting Galatians 5:22 and 23: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” That will help us to learn what our lives as followers of Jesus should look like so we can more faithfully live to please God by staying in step with the Spirit.

“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” Galatians 5:25

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to stay in step with the Spirit. Help my life to exhibit all nine parts of the fruit of the Spirit.. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
