The Heart

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 16:7

God had sent Samuel to anoint God’s choice for king of Israel. In 1 Samuel 16:7 God told Samuel, “But the LORD said to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I

have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.’”

When the Bible talks about our heart, it is referring to more than the organ that pumps blood through our bodies. In the Bible, the heart is even more than just the source of our emotions. The heart is the very center of our being. It is the source of all of our thinking processes. It is our true character.

When we accept Christ as our Savior and give God control of our lives, God gives us a new heart. He tears down the hard, selfish, disobedient walls that made up our old heart and rebuilds our heart by giving us a new character. This new character is

* Stronger (1 Thessalonians 3:13).

* Enlightened (2 Corinthians 4:6).

* Trusting of God (Proverbs 3:5).

* Loyal to God (Psalm 57:7).

* Happy (Proverbs 15:13).

* Peace-filled (Proverbs 14:30).

* Upright (Psalm 97:11).

* Pure (Psalm 51:10).

* Sincere (Ephesians 6:5).

* Wise (Proverbs 14:33).

* Compassionate (Ephesians 4:32).

* Humble (Proverbs 51:17).

* Devoted to God (Psalm 119:10).

Would you like to have this kind of heart? Turn your life over to God and let him start construction right away.

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26

Prayer: Heavenly Father, take my old heart and build in me a new heart in the way only you can. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
