Stains

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Bible Reading: Hebrews 10:22

What happens if you spill red paint on a spotless white dress? It is forever stained. Even when the dress is cleaned and the paint removed, the dress will never again look

“new”. The stain and the necessary cleaning process have changed it.

Purity, something Christians often talk about, is like that. We talk about physical purity, avoiding anything that could in anyway harm or “stain” our bodies and we talk about spiritual purity, avoiding anything that could “stain” our relationship with God. When we do something that stains our bodies or our relationship with God, we are never the same.

Hebrews 10:22 says, “Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.” We can go to God and ask for forgiveness and cleansing, which he will quickly and gladly give, but we still have to live with the consequences of our actions. The “stain” of sin is forgiven, but its memory and aftereffects forever changes our lives.

God knows that and he warns us to keep ourselves pure because he loves us and doesn’t want us to suffer the sad consequences of being soiled by impurities.

I pray that you and I will avoid anything that could stain our spiritual lives. I pray that we will draw near to God so that we can remain pure and spotless for Him.

“Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.” 1 John 3:2 & 3

Prayer: Heavenly Father, draw me close to You. Keep me pure and spotless so that I am glorify You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
