The Bus

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Bible Reading: Matthew 25:13

It's Monday morning. The alarm jangles you awake. You slap the annoying clock to silence it and roll back over. An hour later you are jolted awake by the honking of a bus

horn. You overslept! You fell back to sleep and now the bus is ready to pick you up…but you aren’t ready for it. What will happen? Of course, the bus will leave without you.

When you aren’t ready to climb into a bus when it arrives, you can always find another way to get where you are going, even if it means getting there a little late.

Heaven is a different story. If you “miss the bus” to heaven, there won’t be another one. God has given you this life on earth to get ready for the “bus”. In Matthew 25:13 Jesus gave us this warning: “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.” When your life on earth is over and the “bus” comes to pick you up, you will either be ready to go to heaven, or you won’t.

What if the bus horn honked right now – would you be ready?

“No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.” Mark 13:32

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want to be ready when you send the “bus” for me. Forgive me and get me ready. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
