Avoid Pollution

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Bible Reading: Ephesians 5:1-21

Imagine this scene: Two people stumbling drunkenly along the street, laughing and swearing as they bump into each other and trip over their own feet.

Ephesians 5:3 & 4 warns, “But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.” Making fun of things by swearing, thoughtless or rude joking, and foolish actions is the kind of behavior today’s verse warns against. The kind of giddiness that leads to foolish or sinful actions should never be a part of a Christian’s life. It comes from taking things so lightly, so for granted, that it leads to vulgar, rude, or obscene words or actions.

Here are some things you can do to keep this kind of pollution from saturating your life:

* Thank God often and for everything – don’t take anything for granted.

* Think often about God and how good he is to you.

* Keep your guard up – one slip-up could send you tumbling head over heels into the muck.

* Bring joy to God – every word you say and every action you do should make God smile.

* Enjoy life – your words and actions should be filled with happiness and joy over the blessings that God has given to you.

Now, go! Enjoy living the life God created you to live, a life of abundance, beauty, love, and purity.

“How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.” Psalm 119:9

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want to live a pure life that pleased You. Help me to live the way You want me to live. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
