Bible Reading: Judges 4
Who do you consider to be a great leader? What kind of traits do you think it takes to be a great leader? How can you learn to be the kind of leader that God wants you to
be?
The Bible has some wonderful examples of leaders: King David, his son Solomon, Elijah, Peter, Paul, and Jesus are a few names that come to mind.
Not all of the leaders in the Bible were men, however. Lydia, the seller of purple was an admirable leader in the early church. Another woman with fantastic leadership qualities was Deborah, the prophetess.
Judges 4 tells us about a leader named Deborah. Verse 4 of this chapter says, “Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time.” When God called Deborah to serve Him, she was willing to obey. Deborah put God’s plans before her own. She had the best interest of her people at heart. Deborah had no fear – she trusted God completely. Deborah was patient even with those who didn’t deserve patience. Deborah was decisive – when she knew what God wanted her to do, she did it.
Read about Deborah in Judges 4 or choose one of the other Biblical leaders and make some notes on just what made that person such a good leader. Then find ways to inject those leadership qualities into your own life. You may not be able to do this on your own, but, if you are faithful to God, He will help you and guide you so that you will be the leader He wants you to be.
“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13
Prayer: Heavenly Father, show me what I need to do to become better at leading others to you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
