Bible Reading: Hosea 3:1-5

In verse 1 of today’s Bible reading Hosea said, “The LORD said to me, ‘Go, show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another and is an adulteress. Love her as the

LORD loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes.’”

Hosea did as God commanded. Hosea showed deep, unconditional love for his wife, even when she was unfaithful. The man loved his wife, Gomer more than he loved his own body. Hosea made a serious commitment to Gomer.

Hosea loved Gomer even when she began to withdraw from him for no reason. He loved her even when she left him and their three children for another man. He loved her even when she left that man to become a prostitute. Hosea loved Gomer even when she was sold, naked and sick, in a crowded slave market as a slave.

Hosea, himself, bought Gomer at that slave market, carried her home, nursed her back to health, and restored her to her rightful place as the wife of the prophet of God.

(You can read the rest this couple’s story in the Old Testament book of Hosea chapters 1-3.)

Are you wondering if you are ready to make a serious commitment to another person? If so, ask yourself this question: Am I ready to love someone the way Hosea loved Gomer?

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” John 13:34

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Hosea’s example of love and serious commitment. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
