Scapegoat

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Bible Reading: Leviticus 16:9-10

When Moses was alive, it took two goats to act as the payment for the sins of the people. The first goat was killed as a sacrifice. This goat paid the penalty for the people’s

sins. Today’s Bible verses describe it this way: “Aaron shall bring the goat whose lot falls to the LORD and sacrifice it for a sin offering. But the goat chosen by lot as the scapegoat shall be presented alive before the LORD to be used for making atonement by sending it into the desert as a scapegoat.”

The second goat was presented to the priest alive then released, unharmed into the desert. This goat, the scapegoat, represented the fact that because of the first goat’s death, the people’s sins and guiltiness were completely removed from them – gone forever.

Now Jesus is our scapegoat. His sacrificial death paid the penalty for our sins and completely removed our sins and our guiltiness from us forever.

All you have to do is personally accept that as true “and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). Sin will lose its power to control you. You will want to avoid sinful things. You will want to do things God’s way.

Won’t you accept the truth and receive freedom from the power of sin right now?

“We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I accept the truth – set me free! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
