Pins

Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 13

Have you ever put on a new shirt or sweater only to be stabbed by an overlooked pin? No matter how soft the rest of the shirt felt, that one sharp irritation was enough to

make keeping the shirt on unbearable. That irritating pin had to go!

Losing your temper without good reason or becoming irritated without cause with someone that you love is a lot like that pin. No matter how great your love for that person feels, no matter how much you enjoy the rest of your relationship with that person, that irritation makes the whole relationship uncomfortable.

1 Corinthians 13:5 tells us, “[Love] is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.” Genuine love and unprovoked irritation or anger can’t exist together – one of them has to go. Since God who is the very essence of love has made it clear that we are to love others, it is equally clear that unprovoked irritation and anger must go.

What do you need to do to make your relationships comfortable again?

“You should owe nothing to anyone, except that you will always owe love to each other. The person who loves others has done all that the law commands.” Romans 13:8 (ERV)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, soften my heart and take away all the sharp edges. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
