Lamb of God

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Bible Reading: John 1:29

When people disobey God, someone has to be punished. The punishment for disobeying God is death. God made that clear from the beginning.

In Old Testament times, lambs were sacrificed or killed as a substitute for the disobedient people. The lambs hadn’t done anything wrong. The lambs didn’t deserve to die. The lambs were killed anyway and the disobedient people were allowed to live.

Jesus did that for you. John 1:29 says, “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’” Jesus, the Lamb of God, died as the substitute for you. Jesus didn’t do anything wrong. Jesus died anyway so that you could live. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice. He died one time as the substitute for all of us.

There is nothing that we can do to buy our way into heaven. The only way into heaven is by believing in and accepting “the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect” (1 Peter 1:19) that Jesus shed when he died in our place.

“In a loud voice they sang: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!" Revelation 5:12

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I believe that you died in my place. I’m so sorry for my disobedience. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
