Eternal Savings

Bible Reading: Psalm 39:6

Do you have a job now or are you looking forward to getting one in the future? Why do you want to work? Is your main motivation a big paycheck? What do you plan to do

with all of that money?

We need to work in order to earn the money we need to buy the necessities of life, (being able to buy a few luxuries is nice, too,) but using all of our energy to store up piles of money and things won’t do us much good after we die.

Psalm 39:6 says, “n is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up weMaalth, not knowing who will get it.” After we die, we can’t enjoy the money we’ve saved or the things we bought with it. We do all that work, save all that money, store up all those nice things, and who gets to enjoy them?

However, when we work for Jesus, we are saving up spiritual things. We might not be able to see, touch, or enjoy all of our “eternal savings” right now, but, after we die, we will be the ones to enjoy the fruits of our labor, our riches won’t be passed on to someone else.

Which kind of things are you saving?

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” Matthew 6:19 & 20

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to focus my time on saving things of eternal value. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
