On a Scale of 1-10

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 25:2 & 31:21

2 Chronicles 25:2 says King Amaziah “…did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, but not wholeheartedly.”

Later, in 2 Chronicles 31:21 we read that“In everything that he [King Hezekiah] undertook in the service of God's temple and in obedience to the law and the commands, he sought his God and worked wholeheartedly. And so he prospered.”

On a scale of 1-10, 10 being highest, King Hezekiah was a 10 in his commitment to God. King Amaziah was around a 7 or 8.

How committed are you to the work that you do for the Lord? On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your level of commitment?

Hezekiah gave God the best he had to offer. He served God with all his heart. As a result, God blessed him greatly. However, Amaziah gave God only some of what he had to offer. He gave God less than his best effort, and his life was a tragedy. (If you would like to know more about how the level of a person’s commitment affects his life, read 2 Chronicles 25 and 31.)

Are you like Hezekiah? Is God getting your best effort, your complete commitment, your wholehearted service or are you more like Amaziah giving God only some of your effort, part of your commitment, your half-hearted service? Where are you on the commitment scale?

Are you a 10 – or are you something less?

“‘Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?’ Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’” Matthew 22:36 & 37

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want to raise my level of commitment to you to a 10 right now. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
