Bible Reading: Proverbs 11:13

Proverbs 11:13 gives us this warning: “A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy man keeps a secret.” Knowing when not to repeat what someone has told you in

confidence is one trait of a trustworthy friend. The book of Proverbs lists many other traits of a trustworthy, dependable friend. A trustworthy, dependable friend is a person who:

* Treats people fairly (Proverbs 1:3).

* Aims to understand how others feel (Proverbs 2:2)

* Lives a life that is consistent to what he knows God expects (Proverbs 4:25-27).

* Is honest with God, others, and himself (Proverbs 11:3).

* Acts in right, godly ways (Proverbs 11:5).

* Tells the truth (Proverbs 12:22).

* Works to build up and encourage others (Proverbs 13:17).

* Is content with his own belongings and situation (Proverbs 14:30).

* Thinks before he speaks (Proverbs 19:1).

* Acts with pure, sincere motives (Proverbs 22:11).

* Stays true and obedient to God (Proverbs 24:21).

A regular lifestyle made up of these actions will show others that you can be trusted and relied upon.

In which areas could your life use some work?

“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” Proverbs 17:17

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be the person You want me to be. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
