Bible Reading: Colossians 1:21-22
Think back to a time when you had a fight with a friend. Do you remember how, after the angry words, you both went your separate ways? How long did you go without
speaking to each other? A day? A week? Do you remember how it felt during that space of time when something would happen and you would think, “I can’t wait to tell…” only to realize that he or she wasn’t speaking to you? Did your heart ache, longing to repair the damaged friendship? Did you realize just how much you missed having your friend around to share things with?
Colossians 1:21 & 22 say, “Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation…” Our sins and disobedience have caused us to be separated from God.
When we have disobeyed God but haven’t come to him to ask for forgiveness, God feels the same heartache we experience when we are separated from a friend. He wants to forgive you. He wants to repair the relationship between the two of you. He longs to have you back at his side to share joys and sorrows.
That’s why He sent Jesus. Jesus’ death and resurrection created a way – the only way – that we can be reconciled to God and our relationship with Him repaired.
If you are separated from a friend, take the first step. Start working to reconcile your differences and repair your friendship.
If you have sinned, take the first step. Go to God. Ask His forgiveness. Accept Jesus’ sacrifice and the price of reconciliation. Then God can be reconciled to you, you can be reconciled to God, and your relationship with God can be repaired.
Don’t wait any longer – take that first step now.
“All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:18
Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive me. I accept Jesus’ sacrifice as my to being reconciled with You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
