Bible Reading: Luke 13:22-30
Have you ever run to try to get to class before the bell rang and the door was shut? You knew where you were supposed to be. You knew that once the last bell had rung and
the classroom door was closed, there would be a penalty for not being where you should be on time. Yet, you chose to do whatever it was that put you at risk of receiving the punishment for being late. You failed to be prepared by allowing yourself the time you needed to get to class.
Luke 13:25 says, “Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’ ‘But he will answer, `I don't know you or where you come from.’” In this verse, Jesus was telling a story to explain that there will be a spiritual “last bell.” That “bell” will ring when our live on earth is done. When it rings, we must be ready for heaven. If we aren’t ready, we will be left outside to regret our decision.
Are you prepared for the “last bell” of your life? Have you prepared yourself to go through the “door” into heaven or are you racing down the hall of life, wondering if you’ll make it?
Don’t wait until that last bell has rung and it is too late. Stop wondering and worrying about whether you’ll make it. Take time today to prepare yourself to be through heaven’s door on time by asking God’s forgiveness and letting Jesus have control of your life. That way you will know that you will be there when the time is right.
“So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” Matthew 24:44
Prayer: Heavenly Father, please, hold the door. I’m coming! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
