Bible Reading: Proverbs 4:23
Proverb s 4:23 says, “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” What does it mean to “guard your heart”?
To guard something means to protect, keep safe, shield from danger, and take precautions to preserve.
To “guard your heart” means to take precautions to keep yourself safe from anything that could hurt:
* The feeling of joy that God wants you to experience.
* Your ability to think in a way that pleases God.
* Your conscience and its ability to guide you down the path God has chosen for you.
* Your determination to serve God.
* Your courage to live for God.
* Your soul, the very center of your being that longs to be with God.
What are you doing to “guard your heart”?
“Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry…And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:5 & 17
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to see anything that could endanger my heart so that I can stay far, far away from it. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
