Bible Reading: Galatians 6:4-5
Do you often think things like, “If only I could sing like…” or “I wish I was more like…” or “Why does he/she get all the attention?”
Comparing yourself to any other person is asking for trouble. Just ask Miriam. Miriam was Moses’ sister. She played a role in the deliverance of the Israelites from Egypt. Miriam thought that she should have had some of the attention that Moses was getting. She thought that she had done just as much as Moses, but Moses was getting all the glory. Jealousy had led her to feel bitter and resentful of Moses. She wanted the attention and glory that Moses had.
What did she get instead?
Leprosy. She spent seven days banished from the Israelite camp with a terrible contagious disease. She must have been relieved when God answered Moses’ prayer and healed her.
While you might not get leprosy because of your jealous comparisons of yourself to other people, you will not get happiness or attention either.
Stop comparing yourself with other people. Follow the instructions found in Galatians 6:4 & 5, “Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else, for each one should carry his own load.” Be content with what you have and what you can do.
“We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.” 2 Corinthians 10:12
Prayer: Heavenly Father, keep my eyes on You and my thoughts on how I can use what You have given me to serve You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
