Bible Reading: 1 Timothy 5:22
Which would you prefer to own, a diamond or a piece of limestone the size of a diamond?
Most likely, you would prefer the diamond. Diamonds are harder to find, but they are worth much more a small bit of limestone. It is much more desirable to do all the work required to find a diamond than to walk out to the driveway or roadside and pick up a piece of limestone. The work it takes to find a diamond, cut it, polish it, and place it in a setting is worth it in the end. The sparkle of a beautiful piece of diamond jewelry makes a precious gift.
Keeping yourself pure isn’t easy either. It is much easier to “collect limestone” and follow the crowd by doing whatever feels good at the moment. 1 Timothy 5:22 gives us this warning: “Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, and do not share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure.” The sparkle of a beautiful, pure life will make a priceless gift to give to the Lord. It is a gift that is worth more than all of the diamonds in the world.
“But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.” Ephesians 5:3
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want to keep myself pure. Help me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
