Bible Reading: Psalm 55:12-14
Have you ever had a friend betray you?
Even King David felt the heartache of a friend turning against him. In Psalm 55,
David’s hurt and anger at his treacherous friend is clear. In verses 12-14 David said, “If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were raising himself against me, I could hide from him. But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship as we walked with the throng at the house of God.”
However, instead of trying to get even with his friend himself, David went to God with the problem. David told God how he felt. He told God what he thought God should do to his disloyal friend. David didn’t hold back any of his anger, hurt, or frustration. He let God hear every bit of it.
Then David let go. He let go of his anger, hurt, and frustration. He let go of his desire for revenge. He let go of his friend. David let go of all of those things and let God take hold of them. David trusted God to handle the situation and the disloyal friend in the most appropriate way.
Do you have some things that you need to tell God?
“A man's wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense.” Proverbs 19:11
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I have a problem with this friend… In Jesus’ name. Amen.
