Set Apart

Bible Reading: Psalm 4:3

If you want to buy a car but you don’t have enough money even for a down payment, what do you need to do?

Probably one of the wisest things to do is to save some money until you have what you need. That money, whether it is put into a bank account or into an old sock is set apart for a special purpose – to help you buy a car. If you are serious about buying a car, that money won’t be used for any other purpose other than to help you reach that goal.

When we accept Jesus as our Savior, God sets us apart, too. (That’s called sanctification.) Psalm 4:3 says, “Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD will hear when I call to him.” God uses the Holy Spirit and the time we spend praying and reading the Bible to separate us from sin and set us aside for a special purpose – serving and worshiping God.

If we are serious about serving and worshiping God with our whole lives, we won’t use our resources or talents in pursuit of anything that doesn’t help us attain that goal.

Are you set apart by God for the special purpose of serving him – or are you still serving sin and Satan?

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9

Prayer: Heavenly Father, use me to accomplish Your own special purposes. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
