Names of God: Healer or Great Physician

The last line of Isaiah 53:6 reads, “by his wounds we are healed.” This means that every physical injury that Jesus suffered was part of the price that had to be paid to heal

us of our sins and sinful habits. Jesus is our Healer…our Great Physician.

Things like alcoholism, drug abuse, and gambling are often referred to as “sicknesses.” That is true. These things – and many other similar evils are a part of a greater sickness called sin.

Sin is debilitating. It cripples us and limits our joy. It keeps us from being able to fully serve God. Sin is destructive. It destroys the lives of every person it touches. No one can escape its clutches. Sin is deadly. It is fatal. There is no cure – save one.

The only cure for the disease called sin is Jesus. Jesus came and died so we could be forgiven and healed of the cancer of sin.1 Peter 2:24 says, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.”

How can this happen? What do each of us need to do? Romans 10:9 & 10 give us the answer: “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”

Once we do that, we can claim the promise God made to heal us of our sin and put us back into a right relationship with God. That is the message of Colossians 1:22 – “But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation."

I pray that you will accept Jesus and allow Him to heal your heart and soul today.

Let’s pray.

Heavenly Father, I accept Jesus wounds as the payment to buy my spiritual health. Please heal me of my spiritual wounds. In Jesus’ name. Amen
