God's Home

Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Would you like to live in a garbage dump surrounded by rotten tomatoes, broken toasters, and piles of other trash?

Would you want to invite your friends to come visit you in such a house?

Would you call such a house a “home”?

It’s not likely that any of us would choose to live in a house that was filthy and smelly. While we may not all keep our houses as “neat as a pin,” most of us try to at least keep our houses comfortable and livable.

If you have asked Jesus Christ to be your Lord and Savior, your body is God’s house. You need to remember the words of Paul in 1 Corinthians 6:19 & 20. These verses say, “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.”

What kind of habits have you left lying around God’s house? What kind of actions is he likely to see you doing while he is “sitting in his recliner”? Is God going to like the clothes that you use to decorate his house? Is God going to enjoy the music that you’ve chosen to “set the mood” in his house? Will God like the view he’ll get as he looks toward your TV set, at your computer screen, or out through the windows of your eyes?

Have you taken God’s house, your body, and turned it into a comfortable, livable home for him?

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.” Romans 12:1

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to clean out the garbage and turn your house into a home. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
