Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 6:18-20
God has a very strong opinion of sexual immorality. The Bible gives us clear instructions on remaining pure. For example, 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 gives us this warning:
“Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.”
Sexual immorality is conducting oneself in a way that shows that one is of low character. Sexual immorality is a sin against one’s own body. Sexual immorality dishonors God.
Does that mean that God disapproves of all sexual activity?
Definitely NOT!
God created sex. God planned for us to be sexual beings. God also created a safe place for us to enjoy that sexual activity free from all the worries of sexually transmitted diseases. That “safe place” is within a marriage between one man and one woman (Gen. 2:23, 24; I Corinthians 7:7, 8).
Sex in the setting God created is beautiful. Sex anywhere else or involving anyone other than one’s husband or wife is sexual immorality (Leviticus 18, 20).
Harsh words? Maybe, but God knows what is best for us. Why settle for any plan that gives us less than that?
“How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your [God’s] word.” Psalm 119:9
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for wanting to protect me and give me the best. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
