True Light

Bible Reading: 1 John 1:5 & 6

First John 1:5 says, "This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all." True Light. That is the Name of God that I want to

talk about today.

First, what is light?

Light is everything that is good, right, true, and pleases God (Ephesians 5:9 & 10). Light is blameless, pure, and without fault (Philippians 2:15). God is all of these things. Thus, God is True Light!

When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we become children of light (1 Thessalonians 5:5-11 & Ephesians 5:8). That means Satan and his dark forces no longer have control over our lives. We have come under the protection and control of God, The True Light. We are now able, with God's help and participation in our lives, to be lights for the world, just as God is. Therefore, as Matthew 5:14 & 16 say, "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden... In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."

Why is it important that we let The True Light, God's Holy Spirit, that has been placed in us shine out?

¡ So God will be praised (Matthew 5:16).

¡ To show God to other people (Acts 26:18).

¡ To open people's eyes to God's truth (Acts 26:18).

¡ To turn those people from darkness and toward God (Acts 26:18).

Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior? then be brave – let your light shine! Aim always to please God, do what is good, right, blameless, pure, true, and without fault.

"In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to let my light shine out brightly for all to see. In Jesus' name. Amen."
