Bible Reading: Matthew 16:18-19
Does it sometimes seem to you that evil is winning over good; that Satan is beating down all of the good, God-serving people?
If so, you aren’t alone. Elijah felt that way once, too (see I Kings 19:10-18). God assured him that he wasn’t alone, that others were still serving the true God. In other words, “Hang in there, Elijah! The good guys will win in the end!"
Many years later, Peter, an apostle and trusted friend of Jesus abandoned Jesus by denying that he knew Jesus. It was as if another “good guy” had lost. However, Jesus’ had other plans. In Matthew 16:18 Jesus restored Peter saying, “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”
God wants us to know that we aren’t alone in our attempt to fight against evil and keep serving God. He is with us. Nothing can defeat us. God and the “good guys” will win in the end!
“…surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20b
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for reassuring me that I’m on the winning side. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
