Candy Cane (5)

Bible Reading: Hebrews 9:14

We are continuing to talk about the Christmas symbols in the candy cane. Yesterday we talked about the red stripes. Today we will talk about the white stripes.

The white stripes show us the clean, pure lives we can have because of the red blood that Jesus shed on the cross.

We all sin. We all do wrong things. If we believe in Jesus’ blood, God will forgive our sins. He will make our hearts clean and pure. That is the only way we can be made clean of our sins, just as it says in Hebrews 9:22, “The law says that almost everything must be made clean by blood. Sins cannot be forgiven without a blood sacrifice.”

When we believe that Jesus’ blood forgives our sins and makes us clean, we must obey God’s command in 1 John 1:9-10: “But if we confess our sins, God will forgive us. We can trust God to do this. He always does what is right. He will make us clean from all the wrong things we have done.”

Enjoy another candy cane today. While you are eating it, thank God for forgiving your sin and making you clean – white as the white on a candy cane – through Jesus’ blood.

“We should live in the light, where God is. If we live in the light, we have fellowship with each other, and the blood sacrifice of Jesus, God's Son, washes away every sin and makes us clean.” 1 John 1:7

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for forgiving my sin. Thank you for making my heart clean and white. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
