Bible Reading: 2 Thessalonians 3:14-15
God wants us to be kind, loving and respectful of all people. He wants us to tell our unsaved friends about Jesus.
What should we do if, instead of leading our friends toward Jesus they are pulling us away from Him?
Today’s verses gives us a plan of action for dealing with these types of situations. These verses say, “If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of him. Do not associate with him, in order that he may feel ashamed. Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but warn him as a brother.”
What is the plan of action these verses describe?
Have proof that your friend is in trouble and trying to pull you down with him. Rumors aren’t enough.
Talk to your friend privately. In a kind, friendly way let your friend know that he is headed for trouble and that you are concerned. Gently remind him of the consequences of staying on the road he has chosen. Let him know that you won’t allow yourself to be pulled into bad behavior with him.
Stop spending time with your friend. If you have taken the first two steps and your friend refuses to stop participating in the sinful activity, quit spending time with him. While avoiding him is strong medicine it will keep you from being pulled into trouble along with him. Hopefully, he will realize that if he chooses to keep sinning it will cost him a good friend – you, and will turn back on the right road.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me the wisdom choose friends that will help me grow in my faith. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
