The Bible is God's message to us. Some people try to keep their Bibles in perfect
condition. They don't want any dirt on the cover. They don't want any marks on the pages.
It is good to take care of your Bible and respect it, but the Bible is meant to be read and understood. We need to remember Paul's words in verse of today's Bible reading: “Using the Scriptures, those who serve God will be prepared and will have everything they need to do every good work.” Sometimes it even helps us to understand the Bible if we write in our Bibles.
If you choose to write in your Bible, use an ink pen, colored pencils, or special Bible highlighter markers. You can use different colors to mark different things. For example, underline or highlight your favorite verses with red or pink. Mark verses that you’ve memorized with blue. Mark John 3:16 or Romans 10:9, 10 with green.
Challenge yourself to add to the favorite verses and memory verses regularly. Also challenge yourself to use John 3:16 or Romans 10:9, 10 to show someone you know how to be saved.
I hope you take time each day to read the Bible and maybe write in it, too!
Here are a few more facts about the Bible:
* The Bible is divided into two major sections, The Old Testament and The New Testament.
* There are 66 books in the Bible written by at least 40 different authors.
* The Bible was originally written in three different languages: Hebrew, Greek, and Arabic.
* The 66 books in the Bible were written over a period many years and over a geographical area of many different countries.
* The Bible has been attacked repeatedly for over 2,600 years and yet it is still with us.
* The Bible contains over 2,000 prophecies (predictions about the future) that have already been fulfilled.
* The Bible has proved itself to be true and accurate over and over again.
* The Bible is the holy word of the one true God.
* God personally selected the men to record his inspired message for us to read and learn from.
* While the Bible has been translated into many languages using many different words, the basic, foundational truths of the Bible have remained unchanged.
When it comes to the Bible, what is our responsibility? We are to believe, read, and obey it. We are to study it and put its concepts into practice in our lives.
Jesus, himself promised us a blessing if we read and obey the Bible: “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it” (Luke 11:28).
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your word to us. Help us to use it wisely. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

2 Timothy 3:14-16 – “But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
Hebrews 4:12 – “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
Psalms 119:9-16 – “How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Praise be to you, O LORD; teach me your decrees. With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.”
