Life can be confusing. There are so many conflicting opinions – to drink or not to drink; to smoke or not to smoke; give to church or give to charity or keep your money for
yourself; who to date, sex before marriage or wait…The list seems endless!
So to whom do you listen? Who is right? Who is telling the truth about the important issues in life?
No one person has all of the answers. Our human judgment is just too flawed.
The only way you can know the truth about the tough questions is to consult The Truth – Jesus Christ. In John 14:6 Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus doesn’t just speak the truth, He IS The Truth.
When we want to know more about The Truth, when we want to ensure that we are living in The Truth, we need to begin spending more time with God and in His holy word, the Bible.
Ephesians 6:14 advises, “Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place.” In other words, we need to wrap ourselves in honesty. We need to know what is true. We need to inextricably entwine ourselves with The Truth. Only then will be able to resist the lies with which Satan tempts us. Only then will we have the ability to find our way through life’s confusion, make choices that please God.
Talk to God. Read His Word. While the Bible doesn’t give detailed answers to many of our questions, it does give us principles that can help us figure out the answers on our own.
Heavenly Father, help us to know the truth – Your truth – so we can live to please You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Ephesians 6:10-20 – “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.”
John 8:31b-32 – “Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’”
Matthew 22:16 – “They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. ‘Teacher,’ they said, ‘we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are.’”
1 John 3:18 – “Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.”
John 1:14-17 – “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, ‘This is the one I spoke about when I said, “He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.”’) Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”
