The Final Exam

Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:10

Did you know that one day God is going to give each person a final exam? None of us knows exactly when, but God has a two-part exam waiting for each of us. 2 Corinthians

5:10 says, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.”

The first part of the test will decide how well each of us did with deciding what to do about Jesus. The only question will be, “Did you accept Jesus or reject Jesus?” It’s either pass or fail. You either accepted Jesus or you didn’t accept Him as your Lord and Savior. Passing (having accepted Jesus) guarantees you eternity in heaven.

If you fail the first part of the test, you will be sent to live away from God where you will be held accountable for every sin you ever committed. There are no “do-overs.” This punishment and separation from God will last forever.

If you pass the first part, that means you are a Christian. As a Christian, you will take the second part of the test. In this part of the test God will take a good hard look at every action, every word, every thought that you, as a Christian, have ever had. Any of them that didn’t show others the way to God or didn’t honor God will be thrown out, like wrong answers on a test or useless scrap paper. Those actions that honored God and showed love to others by showing them the way to God will be rewarded.

Passing the second part determines the “extra credit” you receive for actively living out your faith in Jesus. We read about this in James 1:12 – “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”

Are you ready for your final exam? Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior? Are you living a life pleasing to God so you will receive the crown of life in heaven?

“So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.” Romans 14:12

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I’m looking forward eternal life with you and to receiving the crown of life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
