Digi-Journal: Foundation

Today’s Digi-Doodle, “Brick Wall Foundation,” is a piece that I drew as a reminder that we are to have only one foundation in our lives: The Lord Jesus Christ.

If we try to build our lives on anything else – work, money, another person, a hobby, an addiction, etc. – our lives will crumble. We will have no lasting legacy. We will have nothing of value that will last through eternity.

On the surface, building our lives on these temporal things might resemble success, but, after we die, when the dust settles on our graves, we will have nothing. We will leave nothing. We will take nothing with us.

Once we have made decision to build our lives on Jesus and follow Him, we need to keep building, keep growing, keep becoming more and more like Jesus every day.

On what are you building your life? On the shifting sands of the temporary things of this earth or on the solid, unchanging King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus Christ?

Related Bible Verses:

1 Corinthians 3:11 – “For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

Isaiah 28:16 – “Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, ‘Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, A costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed.’”

Matthew 7:24-27 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Ephesians 2:19-22 – “Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.”

1 Timothy 6:18-19 – “Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.”

2 Timothy 2:19 – “Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, ‘The Lord knows those who are His,’ and, ‘Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.’”

1 Peter 2:6 – “For this is contained in Scripture: ‘BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHOICE STONE, A PRECIOUS CORNER stone, AND HE WHO BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.’”
