Resist Temptation

Bible Reading: Hebrews 2:18

We are all tempted to make the wrong choices and do the wrong things. Even Jesus was tempted. However, Jesus withstood the test of temptation. Jesus had the wisdom and strength

necessary to refuse to give in to temptation.

Hebrews 2:18 tells us, “Because he himself [Jesus] suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” When you gave Jesus control of your life He gave you that same wisdom and strength to resist temptation that He has. You simply have to use it. Here’s how:

  1. Submit to God. Determine that you will serve him and please him (James 4:7)

  2. Trust only God (Proverbs 3:5, 6).

  3. Pray and pray some more (Nehemiah 4:9).

  4. Get to know God’s Word (Psalm 17:4).

  5. Go to God for help (Psalm 94:17, 18).

  6. Stand firm in obeying the Bible (Matthew 25:13).

  7. Use self-control. Think carefully before you choose to do anything (I Peter 4:7).

  8. Remember that while God has said that we are free to do whatever we choose, it is not wise for us to do everything that we think we would like to do (I Corinthians 6:13).

“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the wisdom and strength to resist temptation. Help me to use your gift. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
