Wide, Wide World of God - Eyes

Bible Reading: Isaiah 52:8

Blue. Green. Brown, Hazel. Eyes are amazing creations!

For example, we can use them to look at photos of a famous historical site such as Niagara Falls,

Mammoth Cave, or the Grand Canyon. Looking at photos gives us a sense of the beauty of these places. Seeing them on television makes them seem even more real. However, there is only one way to fully appreciate how awe-inspiring and beautiful these places truly are. We need to see them with our own eyes.

Today’s Bible verse, Isaiah 52:8 says, “Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices; together they shout for joy. When the LORD returns to Zion, they will see it with their own eyes.” This verse is saying that the prophets of the Lord would see God deliver the Israelites from their captivity in Assyria with their own eyes.

Later, the apostles and disciples saw, with their own eyes, Jesus, the Messiah deliver people from illness, disease, death, and sin (e.g.: John 1:14 & 1 John 1:2).

When Jesus returns for the second time, everyone will see Him with their own eyes (Revelation 1:7). Some people will be ready to see Jesus. For them, this will be a time of great joy. For other people seeing Jesus will cause sorrow, regret, and pain because they neglected or refused to acknowledge Him as Lord and Savior before His return.

As beautiful as places like Smoky Mountains and the Great Barrier Reef are, there is one thing that will be even more beautiful: seeing Jesus. That is one thing I don’t want to miss. I want to be ready. I want to see Jesus with my own eyes.

“Look, he [Jesus] is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen.” Revelation 1:7

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to be ready to see Jesus. I want to be filled with joy when I see Him with my own eyes. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
