Devote Yourself to God

Bible Reading: Romans 6:13

Romans 6:13 says, “Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body

to him as instruments of righteousness.” Devoting yourself to God means giving yourself to him. A time of daily devotions is a time of giving yourself to God everyday so that he can teach you and enjoy your companionship.

Are you looking for a way to devote some time to God every day? Here are a few ideas:

  1. Read the daily devotion on Gayle’s Goodies every day then get out your Bible and look up one or two other passages on the topic discussed in the tip.

  2. Use a devotional book (biblegateway.com has a list of great ones).

  3. Read through a book of the Bible a chapter at a time.

  4. Use a topical study guide.

  5. Do a word study. Look up a word in a concordance. Read all of the verses listed on that word. Write down what you learn.

  6. Read a passage then create an outline of that passage.

Once you’ve chosen a way to do your devotions, dig right in. The main thing is to be consistent. Chose a specific time of day that works for you and then go it every day.

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15

Prayer: Heavenly Father, show me how we should spend our time together. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
