The Hand (1)

Bible Reading: Hebrews 4:12

It is often helpful to use something familiar to help us learn or remember things. Jesus, Himself, taught people beginning with things they knew and understood: food, wine, fishing, farming, and

marriage, for example.

Why is knowing how to use the Bible? There are many reasons. For example, Hebrews 4:12 tells us, “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” In Psalm 119:1 we read, “Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD.” Psalm 119:49 says, “Remember your word to your servant,

for you have given me hope.” Psalm 119:52 tells us, “I remember your ancient laws, O LORD, and I find comfort in them.” and Psalm 119:67 teaches, “Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your word.”

For the next few days, we are going to talk about a common tool used to help us remember how we need to use the Bible in our everyday lives. That tool is the hand. Each finger of the hand will represent a way to use God’s word in our lives.

Let’s ask God to teach us how to use His word effectively in our lives during the next few days.

“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” Romans 15:4

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want to use Your word well in my everyday life. Please, teach me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
