4 Ways to Fight Your Fears

Bible Reading: Psalm 91:14

What makes you feel afraid? We all have something that scares us – fire, war, getting lost, the

nightly news, failing a test. It doesn’t matter what someone else may think about our fears, to us, they are very real.

Have you given Jesus control of your life?

If you have, you don’t have to be afraid. When you gave Jesus your life, you also gave him your fears. Because you believe in him and trust him to take care of you, he will protect you and shield you. Psalm 91:14 says, ““‘Because he loves me,’ says the LORD, ‘I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.’” Even if your worst fears do come to pass, Jesus will be there to comfort you and help you to cope with whatever happens.

What can you do when you begin to feel overwhelmed by fear?

2. Read the Bible. Find two or three passages in the Bible that really comfort you, mark them, and read them when fear sets in. A couple of my favorite “comfort passages” are Psalm 62 and Psalm 91.

3. Find a favorite hymn or chorus that speaks about God’s strength and care in times of trouble. Memorize it, and sing it to yourself. Two of my favorites are “We Have the Power” and “When I Can Read My Title Clear.”

4. Trust God. He will never let you down1

“When I am afraid, I will trust in you.” Psalm 56:3

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for always being there. I trust you to protect me and to take care of me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
