Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 1:1-9
There are some questions that have been asked from time’s beginning and will continue to be asked until the world stops spinning: “Are we there yet?” “Why is the sky blue?” “What does God look
like?” It just proves that there Ecclesiastes 1:9 says is true: “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.”
There is another thing that never changes: our need for a Savior. Ever since Adam and Eve disobeyed God and took a bite of the forbidden fruit every person on earth has been plagued by sin and sin’s consequences. Sin and the problems is causes will continue to be a problem until Jesus returns to set up His kingdom on earth. At that time, everything will become new. Revelation 21:3 & 4 describe it this way: “And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
What are we to do about sin until Jesus’ return?
* Confess your sin to God and ask His forgiveness: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). Through Jesus we become new creations.
* Meditate and memorize Bible verses to prevent future sin: “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you” (Psalm 119:11). God’s word is the power we need to resist sin’s temptation.
* Reject and run away from all sinful urges and temptations: “2 Timothy 2:22 (NIV)
[22] Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart” (2 Timothy 2:22). Don’t give sin the time of day. As soon as a sinful temptation pops up run from it as fast as you can!
* Run to God and resist the devil: “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded” (James 4:7 & 8). If we keep our eyes and minds on God and the things of God, we can’t be led astray by sinful things.
1 hope you will spend your life here on earth avoiding the old, sinful ways and pursuing God’s new life through Jesus Christ.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” 2 Corinthians 5:17
Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive my sin. Give me strength to obey you and resist sin in the future. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
