Bible Reading: Matthew 6:33 & James 4:8
Reason #7: Prayer allows God to come near to us.
A few days ago, we talked about how prayer allows us to come near to God. We read James 4:8. This verse begins, “Come near to God and he will come near to you.”
James makes it clear that if we want God to come near to us, we must first come near to Him. We do this by following Jesus’ command in Matthew 6:33 and seeking “first his [God’s] kingdom and his righteousness”
There is nothing better that having God near our hearts. It is from the nearness of God’s Spirit that we receive comfort (2 Corinthians 1:4), strength (Psalm 29:11), hope (Jeremiah 29:11), courage (Psalm 34:4), and peace (John 14:27). Having God near us helps us to grow in faith, knowledge of God and godly things, and the wisdom to apply that knowledge. God will also meet all our needs and bless us with the desires of our hearts (Psalm 145:19).
I encourage you to “come near to God,” daily so that God will “come near” to you.
“The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” Psalm 145:18
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I so glad I can come near to You and that You will come near to me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
