Why Pray? (2)

Bible Reading: Psalm 139

In Monday's devotional post, we started our discussion on10 good reasons why you should pray. Let’s start now to talk about each reason in detail.

Reason #1: Prayer is our means of intimately worshiping and praising God.

David’s prayer in Psalm 139 is a beautiful picture of worshiping and praising God through prayer. Throughout this psalm, David praised God greatness and talked about the ways that God had intimately touched David’s life. David praised God’s knowledge, God’s wisdom, God’s creativity, and God’s power. David, through this prayer, basked in the presence of the Lord, knowing there was no escaping God’s presence and having no desire to do so.

In David’s Psalm 139 prayer, David recognized that, without God, David wouldn’t exist. David praises God for His ability to plan even the tiniest detail of David’s life before David was even born saying in verses 15 and 16, “My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

Why don’t you write a prayer of praise and worship to God? Let God know how important He is to you.

“For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.” Psalm 96:4

Prayer: Heavenly Father, teach me how to better worship and praise You thorugh prayer. In Jesus' name. Amen.
