This little bee, Byron, pops up often in my artwork. I think he’s adorable and he was so much fun to draw!

In this appearance, Byron is helping me memorize Romans 12:12. I’m passionate about memorizing Bible verses. I do a number of things to help make scripture memorization easy and convenient. For example, I create tiles for on my tablet screen using a sticky note app. I also create word art or drawings that incorporate my current verse.

Why do I go to all the work of illustrating or decorating Bible memory verses? God wants us to “hide [His] word” in our hearts and there are many benefits to obeying God by memorizing Bible verses. Scripture committed to memory…

1. Helps us know God better.

2. Gives us strength to resist sin’s temptation.

3. Helps us know and understand God’s plan for now.

4. Increases our knowledge of God’s way of living.

5. Gives us a better understanding of God’s plan for the future.

6. Makes our prayers more effective.

7. Helps us make better choices.

8. Gives us a better understanding of the Bible in general.

9. Strengthens our faith.

10. Gives us greater hope and a more positive attitude.

I encourage you, as I encourage my students, to commit to memorizing Bible verses. Start with one verse a week. Feel free to print a copy of Byron and Romans 12:12 and use it to get you started. Look for ways to help you practice and learn your verses: Write it out. Tape it to your mirror. Put it on your refrigerator. Draw or doodle with it. Share it on Facebook. Tweet it on Twitter. Whatever works! The important thing is to be consistent. Practice Bible memorization everyday & don’t give up!
