God's Voice (7) Elisha

Bible Reading: 1 Kings 19:15-18

Elisha followed Elijah as God’s voice, but Elisha didn’t start speaking for God immediately. Elisha had to be prepared for the work God had for him to do.

In 1 Kings 19, God sent Elijah to call Elisha saying in verse 16, “…anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet.” After that, Elisha became the assistant to Elijah. He followed Elijah wherever he went. He watched what Elijah did and listened to what Elijah said. Elisha learned, little by little, what was required of a man called to be God’s voice.

Later, just before Elijah was taken to heaven in a chariot of fire, Elisha asked Elijah for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit. Elisha wanted to be an even more powerful, authoritative voice of God than Elijah had been.

We can learn from Elisha. God has called us to be His voice in our world. We need to learn how to be the best voice we can be. How do we do that? Let God teach us. Read His instruction manual – The Bible. Pray – ask God to teach you and empower you. Watch other more experienced Christians – learn from their example.

I hope you will do everything you can to become the best voice of God you can be.

“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.” Psalm 143:10

Prayer: Heavenly Father, teach me to be the kind of voice You deserve. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
