Bible Reading: Judges 3:12-30
For many years God spoke through men and women whom He chose to be judges over Israel. Ehud was one of these judges.
Ehud seemed to be a man of few words, an interesting trait for person chosen to be God’s voice.
The Bible only records three sentences spoken by Ehud, all recorded in Judges chapter 3 where God sent Ehud to deliver God’s message to Eglon, King of Moab. In verse 19 Ehud told King Eglon, “I have a secret message for you, O king.” Ehud repeated these words in verse 20.
Then Ehud, who apparently believed that “actions speak louder than words,” took action. He “reached with his left hand, drew the sword from his right thigh and plunged it into the king's belly” (verse 21).
After killing Eglon, a king who had rejected God and God’s ways, Ehud fled the palace to go and call the Israelites into battle against God’s enemies saying in verse 28, “Follow me, for the LORD has given Moab, your enemy, into your hands.”
Being God’s voice often requires action as well as words. Our actions, like Ehud’s, prove our faith in God, our love for God, and our determination to obey God at all costs. Obeying God in all we do and say, even when what God tells us to do or say is hard or frightening, is the best way to honor God.
“But someone will say, ‘You have faith; I have deeds.’ Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.” James 2:18
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me as Your voice in this world, to honor you in all I say and do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
