Wide, Wide World of God: Summer Sky

My favorite color is blue.

My favorite season is summer.

Maybe that is why I love looking at the summer sky!

While the sky is blue year-round, except on those grey, rainy or snowy days L, it is especially vibrant in mid to late summer. According to NASA (http://spaceplace.nasa.gov/blue-sky/en/) the sky is blue because “Sunlight reaches Earth's atmosphere and is scattered in all directions by all the gases and particles in the air. Blue light is scattered in all directions by the tiny molecules of air in Earth's atmosphere. Blue is scattered more than other colors because it travels as shorter, smaller waves. This is why we see a blue sky most of the time.”

The sky was one of God’s first creations. He made light and dark on day one and the sea and sky on day two.

Here’s an idea – You sit outside where you are and I’ll sit outside in my yard. That way we can share in the glorious joy of soaking in the sight of one of the most beautiful creations that God made – the summer sky!

Related Bible Verses:

Creation of the sky: “And God said, ‘Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water.’ So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it. And it was so. God called the expanse ‘sky.’ And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.” Genesis 1:6-8

Another good reason to watch the sky: “At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.” Matthew 24:31-31
