Bible Reading: Luke 18:18-29
One Day, a wealthy, young man came to see Jesus. He asked Jesus, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” (verse 18).
Jesus began His reply by listing some of the Ten Commandments.
The young man said, “Luke 18:21 (NIV)
[21] “All these I have kept since I was a boy.” (verse 21).
Finally, Jesus told him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” (verse 22).
They young man then went away sadly. He had worked to obey God’s law but had forgotten the most important commandment. The young man loved God, but not with his heart and soul and strength. He lacked a passionate commitment to and love for God. He wasn’t willing to give up everything for God.
Are you ready to sacrifice everything for God? Do you love God more than you love any other person or thing in your life? Or do you, like the rich young man, lack passionate commitment to and love for God?
“Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” Deuteronomy 6:5
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to have a passionate love for and commitment to You. Help me to be willing to give up everything for You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
