Bible Reading: Romans 6:23
There is an old folk tale about a chicken who has an acorn fall on his head then runs around yelling, “The sky is falling! The sky is falling!” He was convinced the world was ending.
Many people see Christians as being like that chicken. They believe that Christians that are trying to scare them with stories about things such as sin, judgment, hell, Christ’s return and the end times. This is because some people quote verses like Romans 6:23 and stop in the middle of the verse: “For the wages of sin is death...”
How can we help people get past their fear of death and judgment and see the hope that is available in Jesus?
As Christians, we can’t ignore the terrible things that happen to people who reject Jesus. However, we can, and should, be sure to share the positive parts of the gospel. We need to finish the verse: “…but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Hearing about Jesus’ sacrifice, God’s grace, the offer of salvation, and the promise of eternal life in Heaven will help to encourage them and soften their hearts. The good news of the gospel, is the light that will help them find their way to Jesus.
That way, they will be prepared and excited about the wonderful things Jesus has planned for our eternal future and not feel as if “The sky is falling!”
“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.” Philippians 3:20 & 21
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to share the good news about the hope we have in Jesus. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
