Bible Reading: Matthew 28:19 & 20
God has given us a job to do – a calling. That calling or responsibility is found in Matthew 28:19 & 20 which says, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
We are to be “a channel for God’s mercy.” Our only motive should be to clearly tell the gospel, seeking no applause or praise for ourselves. We should never quit. We should simply tell people who Jesus is, how Jesus has changed our lives, and what Jesus can do for them.
As we busy ourselves with this calling, we need to be careful not to allow ourselves to become discouraged when people don’t seem to respond to our message. We need to remember that our calling is to pass God’s mercy and message on to people in need, using God’s grace, not my own strength & abilities.
We must remember that people’s choices are not our responsibility. We need to root our calling in prayer, Bible reading, & familiarity with the gospel. Our passion should be to please Christ. That should keep us going. After all, we are not the Light. We are simply the clay jar that holds the light so it can shine for people to see.
We should also remember that our calling is not to actually save people’s souls. That is God’s responsibility. We are only to tell people about Jesus. It is up to God to move people to accept the gospel and, sadly, many will reject it.
I pray that you and I will faithfully act on our calling until the Lord takes us home to be with Him or until He returns for us.
“I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.” Romans 1:16
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to faithfully live out the calling you have given me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
