Bible Reading: Philippians 3:12-14
Imagine that someone you know has been injured and you need to take that person to the hospital. You put him in the car and start driving. If you want to get to the hospital as quickly as
possible, you must drive forward, take the most direct route, avoid detours and wrong turns, watch for signs, and be alert for all road hazards. If you fail to do any of these things, you won’t make it to the hospital promptly. You will be delayed or sidetracked.
The Christian life works a lot like that hospital drive.
The goal of every Christian is to make it to heaven. In order to reach that goal, we must “press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of” (Philippians 3:12) us and not go backward. We must remain on “the narrow road” (Matthew 7:14) that leads directly to heaven and avoid all of temptation’s detours and wrong turns. We must not allow sin to distract us or sidetrack us from God, His ways, and His plan. Instead, we must “press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called” us through Jesus.
I pray that you and I will be careful to stay focused on our goal and will remain on the road that leads to heaven.
“However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace.” Acts 20:24
Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to stay focused on You, Your plan, and the reward that is waiting for me in heaven. In Jesus' name. Amen.
