The God-Possessed Life

Bible Reading: John 7:37-39

Henry E. Jessop said, “The outward lives of God’s people should be indicative of the possession of inner spiritual wealth.”

In other words, as Christians, our hearts have been filled with great wealth in the form of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, our words and actions should be visible evidence of the presence of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. That means that what we do and what we say should prove that our loves are possessed by God.

In John 7:37b & 38 Jesus gave His disciples a glimpse of life with the Holy Spirit saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.” Jesus wanted His disciples, and us, to understand that when we have the Holy Spirit in our lives, we can’t keep His presence hidden. The attitudes and behaviors that are part of the nature of the Holy Spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control – must flow from our lives for all to see.

I pray that you will continually follow Jesus and allow the wealth of the Holy Spirit to flow from your hearts for others to see so that they, too, will want the wealth of the Holy Spirit to flow from their lives.

“And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:18

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the Holy Spirit. Help my live to continually show His presence to those around me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
